Privacy Policy

Kiao ("Kiao", "we", "our", or "us") is a dating app built around profiles, Browse, live video calls, matching, and chat. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

• Account information: phone number, authentication identifiers, sign-in provider information, and account status.
• Profile information: name, date of birth, age, gender, photos, prompts, traits, preferences, subscription tier, verification badge status, and other details you choose to add.
• Content you create: profile photos, extra photos, chat messages, voice messages, reports, blocks, likes, invites, and other content you submit in the app.
• Face verification data: a live selfie, your main profile photo, face-detection/face-comparison results, verification status, timestamps, and limited technical metadata such as match result, distance, threshold, and provider duration. Verification images are used to perform the check and are not displayed as public profile content.
• Video call data: call identifiers, participants, call status, duration, connection state, WebRTC transport type, approximate bytes sent/received, and usage-limit counters. We do not record or store video call audio or video.
• Location: approximate location if you allow location access, used for discovery and distance-related features. We do not show your exact location to other users.
• Device, diagnostics, and usage data: app interactions, active-session heartbeats, crash reports, device type, operating system, network errors, performance data, and logs used to keep Kiao working and improve reliability.
• Purchase data: Apple subscription product identifiers, transaction identifiers, renewal/expiration status, and entitlement status for Kiao+ or Kiao Pro. Apple handles payment card details; we do not receive your full payment card information.

2. How We Use Information

• To create, authenticate, and manage your account.
• To build your profile and show it to relevant online users.
• To support Browse, gender preferences, live calls, random calls, matching, chat, reports, blocks, and account settings.
• To require and manage face verification before features such as Browse, live video calls, random calls, and post-call matching.
• To moderate photos and safety reports, reduce fake profiles, detect abuse, and enforce our Terms.
• To enforce shared daily limits, subscription access, and safety restrictions.
• To send notifications about calls, matches, messages, and important account activity.
• To debug crashes, monitor API usage, improve performance, and understand product usage.

3. Face Verification

Kiao may compare a live selfie with your main profile photo to reduce fake profiles and impersonation. Some face checks happen on your device. Server-side verification may send the selfie and your main profile photo to Kiao's backend and a self-hosted DeepFace comparison service. The comparison service processes temporary image files for the check and returns a match result. We may keep verification status and technical metadata, but verification selfies are not intended to be public profile photos.

Face verification helps reduce misuse, but it is not a guarantee of a user's legal identity, background, intentions, or safety.

4. Photo Moderation and Safety

Profile, chat, and other uploaded photos may be checked before storage. Kiao may use Apple's on-device Sensitive Content Analysis and server-side moderation services, including OpenAI image moderation, to detect nudity, sexual content, abuse, or other unsafe content. If an upload is flagged, we may block the upload, record a moderation event, restrict the account, or ban the account.

Users can report or block other users in the app. We use reports, blocks, automated signals, and manual review to enforce safety rules.

5. Video Calls

Kiao uses WebRTC for live video calls. Calls may connect directly peer-to-peer where possible. When direct connection is not possible, encrypted WebRTC traffic may be relayed through a TURN server. TURN relay servers help connect calls but are not used to record call audio or video.

Live video may be analyzed on your device in real time to detect sensitive or sexual content. This analysis happens on your device using Apple's on-device technology. Video frames are not recorded, stored, or sent to our servers for this live-call sensitive-content check. If sensitive content is detected, the call may end automatically and a safety report may be generated.

6. Service Providers

We use service providers to operate Kiao, including Supabase for authentication, database, storage, realtime, and backend functions; cloud infrastructure providers for DeepFace verification and TURN/video connectivity; Apple for App Store distribution and subscriptions; OpenAI for image moderation; Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In where selected; Sentry for crash and diagnostic reporting; and push-notification infrastructure for app notifications. These providers process information only as needed to provide services to us.

7. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information when needed to operate Kiao, provide safety and moderation, process subscriptions through Apple, comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, enforce our Terms, or complete a transaction or feature you request.

8. Data Retention

We keep information while your account is active or as needed to provide Kiao, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, prevent abuse, and protect safety. You can delete your account in the app settings. Deletion removes your profile and account-related app data from active use, subject to backups, security logs, legal obligations, and anti-abuse records.

9. Your Choices

• Edit your profile in the app.
• Control camera, microphone, photo library, notification, and location permissions in iOS Settings.
• Choose your gender preference for Browse and random-call matching.
• Block or report users in the app.
• Delete your account from Settings.
• Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple account settings.
• Contact us for privacy requests.

10. Age Requirement

Kiao is for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly allow people under 18 to use the app.

11. International Processing

Your information may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, depending on where we and our service providers operate.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the date above when changes are made.
